On the 15th February 2020, Ofcom launched their latest piece of legislation; End of Contract Notifications and Best Tariff Information. This has been designed to help tackle the so-called ‘loyalty penalty’ and to make customers aware of cheaper tariffs and services so they can get the best deal.
The Ofcom legislation states that all broadband, mobile, home phone and pay TV companies must provide an end of contract notification to their customers with the following information:
- Their minimum contract end date
- The current services they receive and the price they pay for these services
- Any changes to price and services during their contract
- Information about notice period for terminating their contract
- Details about best tariff prices and deals
Providers must inform residential and small business customers 10-40 days before their contract ends by either SMS, email or letter. They must also provide ongoing annual notifications to customers who remain out of contract.
